INHERITANCE CIRCLE
A space to talk about ancestry, resilience, identity, family inheritances, decolonization, and more.
A five-month series.
Starting June 25th. Ends Nov. 12th

We are all stewards of legacies
that started long before us.
Whether we are consciously aware of it or not, these legacies shape various aspects of our lives from our individual psychology and familial dynamics to our sociology, ecology, and global relations. By acknowledging and addressing these influences, we can work to explore, dismantle, decolonize and transform how they manifest within us.

What to Expect
6 pm: Ancestral Altar
You are invited to bring an item of significance to you (pictures of ancestors, altar items, and other offerings of food, incense, etc). Offerings represent energy exchange so please bring something that speaks to your intention.
6:30 pm: Land & Ancestral Acknowledgement
Drop in as a group through a land and ancestral acknowledgement. This helps us connect on a guiding theme for the week. If you feel called to share an acknowledgement, prayer, meditation, song, etc, please reach out. The goal is to give space for as many voices as possible and share in the spirit of collaboration.
Sharing Circle
Each person will get a few minutes of uninterrupted time to speak on how the themes of the week are reflected in their lives. As listeners, we get to practice active listening. As speakers, we get to practice taking up space, telling our stories, and honoring our boundaries as to what is ripe to share or not.
8/8:30 pm: Dialogue & Close Out
Time to connect and converse as a group, open style. Please observe the community agreements below. Close out prayer.

Community Agreements
Inclusivity: We aim to create a “brave” space where all people feel welcomed, heard, and valued. This space welcomes all bodies, all identities, genders, ages, and religions.
Growth Mindset: We are all learning and have valuable perspectives to contribute. Acknowledge that there will be moments of discomfort/disagreement and embrace discomfort as part of the learning process.
Confidentiality: Please do not share or talk about other people’s experiences with people outside the circle.
Curiosity: This is a safe space to ask questions. However, some questions may be answered with an invitation for you to do your own homework. We are all here to learn from and teach each other but our goal is to mitigate emotional labor from our bipoc participants.
Speak from Your Experience: Use "I" statements to share personal experiences rather than generalizing or speaking for others.
Respect: Treat everyone with respect, even when there are disagreements. Listen actively and without interrupting.
